Auto-rickshaws have manual transmissions with 4 forward gears and 1 reverse. This mechanical engineering project is about integrating an automatic transmission to an autorickshaw replacing manual transmission gear box.
Manual transmissions are operated with the help of a clutch box, a gear knob and meshing of different sets of gear boxes. But an automatic transmission works with the help of planetary gears.
The working of automatic transmission for the project is the same as that in a gearless scooter. But here while integrating this transmission with an auto-rickshaw the size of the transmission equipment is different from that of scooter. So you will need to machine transmission elements.

Can it be applied to other vehicles for example 2 & 4 wheelers
It’s possible for 2 wheelers but 4 wheelers need a more complex design.
I just happen to cruise to this website by accident but found this article interesting. If such auto-transmission is available, I could get thousands of them fitted in Delhi’s autorickshaws which are part of our organisations.
So it looks like anyone attempting this project has a good market as well as a sponsor!!

The title of project is “Gear cutting Attachment on Lathe”.
Its a special Fixture which when attached on a lathe m/c can be used to cut profiles of gear.
Thus we do not need milling machine for that.
